The Lorain County Metro Parks offers two Wildlife Observation Areas where visitors can comfortably sit indoors and get a close-up view of the wildlife outside. These two areas offer bird feeders as well as many natural plants to attract local wildlife.


Carlisle Visitor Center

Carlisle Visitor Center’s Discovery Den is an area and opportunity for you to enjoy observing and learning about the variety of birds and other wildlife that visit the flowers, bird feeders, and ponds in the beautiful ‘Wildlife Garden'. See first-hand how to create a wildlife-friendly garden in your own backyard as you relax and bird-watch. Meet the various live reptiles and amphibians who are currently on display for you to observe as well!

In addition, reading materials, interpretive displays, and hands-on activities can be found on a variety of wildlife-related topics from identification and natural history to observing and feeding. Binoculars are available to borrow upon request, as well as kid-friendly books and activities for your lil’ birders.

The Wildlife Observation Area at French Creek Nature Center shares its space with the children’s indoor play area. Kids can play, climb, and crawl while learning about the environment in an indoor woodland-themed play area. While the children play, adults can enjoy the view from our wall of windows and see wildlife such as song birds enjoy the outdoor feeders.
