Summer Camp Games

Explore. Connect. Engage! Nature Camp will foster a love and respect for nature through outdoor activities, wildlife encounters, habitat explorations and much more. Each day of Nature Camp will provide a schedule filled with creative crafts, experiments, outdoor journaling activities, active team games, and plenty of fun nature hikes! Camps are also held in a safe environment with qualified and enthusiastic Naturalist staff.


Come out and play in the great outdoors during this fun-filled week of Camp! Camp runs from 9 am – 12 pm, Monday – Friday. This camp is designed for first-time campers. This year, we will explore parts of habitats through hands-on activities, games, educational programs, live animals, and more! Explorers will receive stickers for their “Explorer Camp Wheel” for each day they attend.

Want to learn how to become an adventurer? For 2018, this full-day camp (6 hours) is Monday – Friday and will include adventures all over our planet! We will explore habitats from all over the world, as well as habitats within our parks. This will all be done through hands-on activities, hiking, educational programs, and more! Adventurers is a great way to meet new friends and earn adventurer knowledge!

Summer Camp, Vermilion River Vermilion River Reservation
Dates, times and more information below

Week One:

9-11 yrs July 16-20 9am-3pm each day $160 per person

Students aged 9-11 years will enjoy a fun filled week of adventure! Activities will include hiking, river explorations, geo-caching, fishing, disc golf, survival skills, kayaking, and so much more! Meet at the Vermilion River Reservation each day. On Monday and Friday the Camp activities will take place throughout the day at the Vermilion River Reservation. Tuesday through Thursday the Camp will begin at VRR, and the LCMP Bus will transport students to various field trip locations throughout the county. Week Two:

Students aged 12-14 years will try out new and exciting outdoor activities, as well as traditional favorites such as hiking and fishing. We will travel on the LCMP Bus for field trips Tuesday through Thursday, and enjoy on-site activities at VRR on Monday and Friday. Family Camp

Try out a brand new Camp designed just for kids to enjoy time with their grandparents! Various activities will engage participants with nature, and create lifelong memories along the way. Activities will include photo crafts, a bird feeder project, creek explorations, fun games, and more! Bring along a packed lunch to enjoy a noontime outdoor picnic, lemonade and iced tea will be provided.

Family Camp


Saturday, August 11th

Are you looking for a fun opportunity to explore the outdoors without the hassle of planning the activities, or buying all the gear? If so, join us for Adult Summer Camp! This day will be a great combination of outdoor recreation activities as well as opportunities to de-stress.

For the Camp we will meet at Henry’s Barn at The North Star Reservation. Upon arrival, participants will be able to fuel up with a light breakfast buffet. We will also have a few fun activities to get to know one another. From this point, we will journey to the Wellington Reservation via our Lorain County Metro Parks bus. At the Wellington Reservation, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a beginner on-water 1.5 hour Stand-up Paddleboard Class. We will also have a variety of additional activity stations set-up, including geo-caching and survival skills.

After our adventures at the Wellington Reservation, we will make the return trip to Henry’s Barn for lunch (provided). Post lunch, enjoy a relaxing hour of yoga! To wrap up the activity schedule, we will have a DIY craft project (project options will include leather stamping or glass etching), complete with appetizers and adult beverages (2 drink tickets per person), ID required. At the end of the Camp we will have a photo presentation of the day’s adventures, and time to enjoy the Barn’s back patio.

Sports Camp is designed for boys and girls. The camp will include fundamental instruction and game play experience in traditional and non-traditional sporting activities including; fitness, team sports, individual sports, and water sports.

This camp is for all levels of fishing experience. It includes lessons in: casting, baiting a hook, knot tying, and catch and release. All that plus new field trips and a fish fry! This camp also includes an entire week of program and take-homes. We’ll even take some time to go hiking and swimming!

Learn about birds, bugs, reptiles and other wildlife. The week’s events include: hikes, critter catching, and awesome field trips!

Family Camp

Pre-register PER DATE. Participants may register for multiple dates (Day One and Day Two are duplicate programs, so participants must pick between those two options).
Ages 12-17
$35.00 per person/per day

Is your teen interested in getting some additional on-water boating experience this summer? If so, consider registering for one or multiple dates of Youth Boating Adventures! These one-day Camps will be held throughout Lorain County, and will focus on a different aspect of boating on each day. Participants will meet other youth who enjoy water sports, have plenty of practice time, and also have fun with a few traditional camp activities.

Day One: Monday, July 30 OR Day Two: Tuesday, July 31

Personal Watercraft and Powerboating 9am - 3pm Meet at Lakeview Park (bus trip to Lorain Sailing and Yacht Club) $35 per person (register for one date)

Get a beginner or refresher course on PWC, followed by time trying them out at Lakeview Park! Each participant will be with a trained instructor. After lunch, we’ll board the LCMP bus to the Lorain Sailing and Yacht Club for an afternoon of instructor-led powerboating on the Black River. Ohio Boater Education Card REQUIRED for all participants. Contact Jannah at (440) 967-7310 if your participant will need to take the class prior to Camp.

Day Three: Wednesday, August 1

Canoeing 9am - 3pm Meet at French Creek Nature & Arts Center (bus trip to aquatic facility for Canoe class, and bus trip to French Creek canoe/kayak launch) $35 per person

Participants will begin with the American Canoe Association’s Smartstart Canoe Class. After this class and lunch, we’ll head to the French Creek canoe and kayak launch for a fun afternoon of paddling! Along the way, participants will enjoy a riverside snack break, some bird watching, paddling games, and so much more!

Day Four: Thursday, August 2

Kayaking 9am - 3pm Meet at Vermilion River Reservation – Carriage Barn (bus trip to aquatic facility for Kayak class, and bus trip to Vermilion Public Boat Launch) $35 per person

At the start of the day, participants will take part in the American Canoe Association’s Smartstart Kayaking Class. Following the class, we will travel to the Vermilion Public Boat Launch to depart for a kayaking adventure on the Vermilion River. Part way down the river we will stop for a lunch break. After lunch, we will make our return trip. Afterwards we will finish up the day with some fun activities at the Carriage Barn.

Day Five: Friday, August 3

Stand-up Paddleboarding 3 - 9pm Meet at the Wellington Reservation – Wellington Visitor Center $35 per person

To start out the Camp, we will have a Smartstart Stand-up Paddleboarding Class on the Wellington Lower Reservoir. After completing the class, participants will enjoy a relaxing cookout and other activities. Afterwards we will depart for a “glow paddle” on the reservoir to enjoy the sunset and practice our skills.

Family Camp

Do you want to learn more about boating while spending time on the water this summer? Take part in this camp and you can learn safe boating skills directly from certified boating instructors and ODNR Division of Water craft and US Coast Guard officers, earn a required state boating certificate, and become a "Captain of Your Own Vessel!"

Commitment to participate in all of the following disciplines is mandatory for all Spirit of America Boating students: Family Camp

  • Classroom instruction, including the Ohio Boating Education Course (OBEC)
  • Pool instruction (drowning prevention & equipment preparedness)
  • Four full days of training on the water in canoes, kayaks, sailboats, motorboats, stand up paddleboards and personal watercraft (jet skis)
  • Graduation ceremony and family boating opportunity
