Welcome to the website page of Miller Nature Preserve! Located on Route 83 in Avon, Miller Nature Preserve rests on 78 acres of wooded land in the heart of Avon. Much of the property was donated by longtime Avon resident, Buddy Miller in memory of his late wife Alice Fowles. A Visitor Center is nestled between trees and the winding French Creek and includes a café, a gift shop and a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes. The highlight of this preserve is the 5,000 square foot conservatory, the first in Lorain County. Bring your family and friends and camera to capture the beauty inside and outside.

Big Ideas for Small Spaces

The newest seasonal display honoring our nation and those who have fought to protect it. With the colors of “Old Glory” spread throughout the conservatory and overflowing into the outdoor gardens, it is difficult not to be filled with the American spirit. Bring your family this Memorial Day weekend to Miller Nature Preserve and see the wide array of red, white, and blue flowers!

Highlighting the Miller Nature Preserve is the Conservatory, which displays various plant specimens from all over the world in a unique recreation of their habitat. Follow the paths through the conservatory and enjoy the colorfully landscaped gardens including the orchid collection donated by Dr. Ibrahim Eren of Lorain, bromeliads, ferns, bonsai, desert plants, palms and cycads, and other tropical plants. Visit us regularly to see new floral displays that celebrate unique and beautiful plants.

Admission only applies to the conservatory. You are welcome to hike the trails and visit the visitor center free of charge.

Wellington Creek

Northeast Ohio once had numerous greenhouse operations, with Avon being a forerunner with the most acres under glass and considered the Greenhouse Capital. In the early 1970’s one of the major plants that was producing millions of dollars and thousands of tons of crop was the ‘hot house’ tomato. Today, that industry is not as dominant to the national greenhouse industry but there are still numerous greenhouses that provide a variety of herbs, annuals, perennials, ornamental plants, and vegetables in Avon.

A Metro Park is always growing, improving, and meshing with the needs of the community. In the coming months and year, some of the projects we are working on are the outdoor gardens, trails, and a separate butterfly house.
