Boating is only allowed at the Wellington Reservation in the Reservoir. Visitors may bring their own non-gas motorized boats for fishing the South Reservoir.

Kayaking and Canoeing

The Lorain- Vermilion Water Trail, a designated kayaking and canoeing water trail, runs from Vermilion River Reservation to Vermilion, across Lake Erie to the City of Lorain and along the Black River to Bur Oak Picnic Area of Black River Reservation. Private kayak rentals companies are available on both the Vermilion River and Black River. There are several access points along the trail.

The Metro Parks also has beginner kayaking courses at Splash Zone. Check out the programs section of the website for the next class.

The kayak livery at the Wellington Reservation is open Sundays and Wednesdays during the months of July, August, and September from 9am to 2pm. Kayak rentals are first come, first serve and are $15/hour for a single kayak and $25/hour for a tandem kayak. Persons 18 years of age and younger must have an adult participating with them. Paddle Boats

Explore the Southern Wellington Reservoir with paddleboats offered at Lorain County Metro Parks' Wellington Reservation, Memorial Day through Labor Day, Monday, Tuesday and Friday through Sunday, 10am - 6pm. Closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Visitors will be able to explore the reservoir on one of four paddleboats that will be available from 10am-6pm Friday through Tuesday. Each paddle boat can hold four people and is free of charge to use. The paddleboats are available on a first come first serve basis and have a time limit of 2 hours. All passengers on the boats must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket, which is provided. The Wellington Reservation is located at 535 Jones Rd, Wellington, Ohio 44090.
